How are students chosen for Young Dancer Workshop?
Young Dancer Workshop is by audition only. Students are assessed based on their technique, overall ability, physical attributes, strength, focus,
attitude and previous classical ballet training, as well as the ability to receive and apply correction.
When will I find out if I have been accepted?
Results will be communicated via email within two weeks of audition.
Are there different levels within the program? How and when does level placement happen?
Colorado Ballet Academy Young Dancer Workshop has two levels, which are determined during the placement class that occurs on the first official day of each session. Students are not
placed in any level prior to the placement day.
Is it possible to audition by video?
Video auditions are handled on a case by case basis. Please contact the Academy to learn more firstname.lastname@example.org
Is it possible to attend a portion of one session?
Partial sessions are not allowed.
Are scholarships or financial aid available?
A limited number of scholarships are available and awarded on a case by case basis during the time of audition. We are unable to offer
financial aid for our summer programs.
Can parents observe classes? Will there be a performance at the end of the session?
In lieu of class observation, each Young Dancer Workshop session culminates in a performance presentation in Colorado Ballet's Black Box Theater.
What is the dress code for Young Dancer Workshop?
Gilrs: black leotard, convertible pink tights, footless black tights for modern class, pink ballet slippers, black character shoes, black character skirt, black short wrap skirt.
Boys: white t-shirt, black tights, black jazz pants, black or white ballet slippers with socks, character shoes.
What is a daily schedule like?
Hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday. A typical day includes 4-5 hours of dance with supplemental lectures and focused trainings.
The Young Dancer Workshop curriculum consists of level specific classes in ballet technique, young men’s body conditioning and technique,
character, modern, yoga, and Pilates. Lecture classes will include injury prevention, nutrition, ballet history,
music for dance and Anatomy in Clay©. The last day of each session will be extended to allow for a performance presentation.
As there will be no classes on July 4 during Session 2, the daily schedule will be extended the week of July 1-5.
Is housing available?
Due to age restrictions, we are unable to offer housing for Young Dancer Workshop students.
Are Young Dancer students eligible for Colorado Ballet Academy’s year round program?
Yes. Students who meet appropriate age requirements will be eligible to register for the 2019-2020 Academy.
